Laser Cataract SurgeryWith the introduction of the first FDA-approved cataract laser, The Nielsen Eye Center is proud to offer All-Laser cataract surgery! This option allows each patient the opportunity for a customized cataract surgical procedure. Everyone’s eyes are different; the size, depth and curvature of the cornea vary significantly in each person. This All-Laser technology enables our doctors to capture precise, high-resolution images of the eye, along with incredibly accurate measurements and data. This information is then used to plan a surgery customized for that particular patient.

How LenSx® Laser Cataract Removal Works

The LenSx® Laser provides real-time, three-dimensional visualization of the eye, optimizing all surgical incisions. Blades are not used during All-Laser cataract surgery, allowing for more accuracy and precision, resulting in a more effective outcome.

The LenSx® laser provides computer-controlled precision in cataract surgery. It automates some of the most challenging steps of refractive cataract surgery, optimizing all incisions for enhanced, reproducible results.

Not only does the LenSx® laser enable our doctors to make optimal incisions, but it also allows them to make precise capsulotomies. This is a crucial step in replacing the clouded lens. It is important that this capsule not be damaged during surgery, as it must hold the artificial replacement lens.

In traditional cataract surgery, the removal of the cataract is accomplished by using an ultrasonic device, which can lead to heat buildup in the incision. This can sometimes burn the incision and negatively affect visual outcome. Using the LenSx® laser enables the surgeon to remove the cataract by softening it as it breaks up, and breaking it into smaller pieces. Less energy is used, offering less of a chance of burning and distorting the incision. Yet another advantage of the LenSx® laser is the ability it offers the surgeon to correct astigmatism at the time of surgery.
